A Boy And His Atom || The World's Smallest Movie
"By magnifying atoms over 100 million times, IBM Research
were able to create 'the world's smallest movie,' which now holds the
Guinness World Records record for the World's Smallest Stop-Motion Film.
Using a scanning tunnelling microscope, the researchers were able to
move thousands of carbon monoxide molecules (two atoms stacked on top of
each other) to create a basic animation telling the story of a boy and
his pet atom. After doing a little dance and playing around, the boy
throws the arom into the cloudy sky where the words 'THINK IBM' are
written out. According to IBM, 'the ability to move single atoms — the
smallest particles of any element in the universe — is crucial to IBM's
research in the field of atomic memory. But even nanophysicists need to
have a little fun.' Watch below."
