Wanderers || Short Film

Eric Wernquist presents a beautiful short film entitled Wanderers. A vision of what humanity’s expansion into the Solar System might looks like, the short is entirely based on existing scientific ideas and concepts. The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, and have been built from real photos and map data that are available today. Overwhelming in one way, at the same time so beautiful and mesmerizing on the other hand, Wernquist’s vision of the future in space is certainly a positive one. Mars, Saturn, Jupiter and of course Earth, are all featured in the short, once again emphasizing the close to reality approach of the short film. Turn the volume up and enjoy it here below.

The Guild of Artisans

Melbourne-based cosmetics company Aesop has produced a beautiful new short film called The Guild of Artisans which, rather than simply showcasing their wide array of products, pays respect to the materials frequently employed in Aesop spaces: ceramic, leather, textiles, copper, timber, and marble. It also honours the historic craft guilds and "those who spend a lifetime honing the knowledge and techniques that enable them to excel in their respective crafts."

The Canyon's Child || Dino Carmo

Portugal's Dino Carmo had a sterling October at Nazaré.
Here's a clip that fell through the cracks last week that we just couldn't not share with you (does that make sense?). Anyways, Dino's one of the many world-class boogers to come out of Portugal and he was not only born in the country's big-wave haven of Nazaré, but has been raised among the towns triangle peaks since picking up a board when he was around eight years old. There's a fair bit of juice in this clip, put together by Pedro Luis, from just one month of surfing.

Jacob Harmer || Skate

Filmmaker Jacob Harmer has created a short film in conjunction with White Lodge agency which extols the virtues of skateboarding. Shot during a foggy day in London, it takes a look at the beauty of the sport (or lifestyle, if you will) through the eyes of French artist, model and lifelong skater Theo de Gueltz. "Maybe skateboarding is a way out," he says. "You don't speak, you don't fuck around, you just skate. The only thing that matters is the present time, what I'm doing right now. The sound of the wheels on the concrete is so loud, everything else isn't important any more, that makes you feel stronger, that makes you feel free."

HUF || Stoops Asia Tour

Skateboard tours mean different things to different people. If you're a pro or am, they're an opportunity to skate new spots, drink excessively on someone else's dime, and possibly shrug off demos. For team managers, they're an exercise in disciplinary strategy. And for flow dudes, they're a chance to prove you fit in with the team you're trying to get on.

Rather than load them into a van and drag them across America, HUF sent Brad Cromer, Sammy Winter, Peter Ramondetta, Josh Matthews, Keith Hufnagel, Joey Pepper, Kevin Terpening, and Josh Matthews to Asia. They skated spots in Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, and elsewhere. And they turned their trip into a 10-minute edit, out today. So if you have no immediate plans on going on tour yourself, you can live vicariously through them.

MUòRICA_

Modica is an unexpected wonder... It has a bizzarre, unique effect on people, something so unreal, as if it seen through the deforming prism of dreams, like an immense phantasmagorical edifice of a fairytale, which instead of being made of floors, is made of layers of houses.” With these words an anonymous traveller skillfully described the city of Modica in the 60's, also called Muòrica in Sicilian dialect.
It is a fascinating place that captivates you in its labyrinth of tiny alleys and staircases climbing up the steep hills teeming with small houses made of white rock, all piled up atop one another, closing off the valley as if in a crude, but warm hug.
The basic idea behind the Muòrica project was that of exploring the city in search of something strange to skate. Mauro was the ideal person: curious, motivated, always ready to travel and dive head-first into crazy and interesting projects. And of course he lives in Sicily.
Enjoy Mr. Caruso shredding the old city founded 1360 years Before Christ.

Astronaut || A Journey To Space

Filmmaker Guillaume Juin has utilised over 80GB of unused photos from the International Space Station to create one of the most beautiful videos of Earth filmed from space. The photos were taken over the past three years by crew members of ISS expeditions 28, 29, 30, 31, 34, who travelled in the space station at 28,000 km/h, 350km above the Earth's surface.
Juin said all it took was some removal of dead pixels, deflickering, and some simple colour grading in After Effects and Premiere (curves, saturation, and some blue crushing) to produce these stunning results. Watch the 3-minute short, entitled Astronaut || A Journey To Space, below.

For the Japanese, Bōsōzoku culture encompasses the lifestyle associated with customized motorcycles and automobiles. Match Made in HEL 2014 || Connecting the skateboarders of East and West

For two days in October, pro skateboarder Arto Saari hosted a skate session at Helsinki Airport, allowing some of the world's best skateboarders to hit up super-smooth marble and concrete spots which are usually unaccessible. Because Helsinki airport is considered to be the gateway between Asia and Europe, with thousands of people transferring between Asian and European flights every day, the idea was to bring together skateboards from both East and West, allowing them to share their passion.
