The xx || We See You Berlin (Short Film)

The xx have shared a new short film titled We See You Berlin, the first in a series of We See You films.

The 10-minute short film looks at the close bond between The xx and their fans. Directed by Sylvie Weber, it features live and documentary footage from the bands headline set at Berlin’s Lollapalooza, alongside a number of intimate portraits of fans who attended the show.

Speaking about the film, director Weber said:

"My process as a filmmaker speaks to a consistent desire within me to unveil the character within, I keep an aesthetic and cinematic visual in mind when on set, cautiously leading the protagonists while allowing them to slowly become more themselves on screen.

In the case of ‘We See You’, coming across truly engaged and earnest individuals was not difficult, the vulnerability that The xx expose in their music is the basis for their incredibly close connection to the fans themselves. I think we've managed to represent in these four stories the feeling of the many millions who are so profoundly affected by the harmonies of Romy, Oliver and Jamie."

alt-J || Pleader (Official Video)

alt-J have just shared a short film for new Relaxer single "Pleader".

The ambitious video comes directed by Isaiah Seret and was filmed in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales.

It chronicles life from birth to death within a Welsh mining family, and includes footage of an actual birth taken from an experimental 1959 film, as well some impressive visuals of a "tidal wave of earth" swallowing up an entire village.

Speaking to NPR about the video, alt-J said:

"When we set out to make a video for ‘Pleader’, Joe sent the following one line brief to director Isaiah Seret: 'a Welsh mining love story; a tidal wave of earth.' What Isaiah came back with was an epic short film, inspired both by the song's source material and Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice. A family must pit their desire to have a child against the knowledge that this would destroy their community. The hypnotic, hymnal quality of the song binds the video throughout, hinting at redemption while destruction takes place."

Thanks to social media we often get blips and a few laughs from behind the scenes at Dane Reynolds' house.

His wife Courtney's Instagram is must-see social media. Between Sammy, Boogie, Pam and the pigeons, it's content cute overload.

And beyond that there's Dane, the man behind those scenes, is front and center in his scenes.

Dane recently produced Chapter 11, his more or less tell-all about the prime of his professional surfing career and the highs and hurdles stemming from the interesting challenges it presented him personally.

Below he talks about his next prime.

Building a continually growing family, starting his new brand FORMER now that he's left Quiksilver, and traversing the world that comes with all that.

It's a lot of new in his world. He still loves surfing. Sitting in the parking lot at Emma Wood. And the occasional Modelo.

But What Youth went over to get a look at how Dane's next chapter is coming along.

Across three months, Olbinski chased storms through 10 states in USA and over 28,000 miles, eventually shooting over 90,000 photos to capture the pure majesty of storm clouds passing over breathtaking landscapes.
