Vienna moves || Short Film

The city may be different and not always like you used to see in the pictures, while still remaining unique and charismatic.

 Alex Soloviev goal was not to show the main sights of the city, but to convey the feelings that you are experiencing in this city when the feast is over, and spring has not yet arrived.

 This is Vienna, this is winter.

LA TORCHE || Short Film

A few months ago, French director Hugo Manhes touched down in Pointe de la Torche, Brittany, in the dead of winter to create a surf film like no other.

 Setting up his camera at 2.30 AM, Manhes was joined by local surfers Ian Fontaine and Gaspard Larsonneur who took to the waters for a nighttime battle with the waves lit up by 120,000-watt neon lights.

 The result is this haunting six-minute-long short film, entitled LA TORCHE, which transforms the famous surf spot into a psychedelic dreamscape.

Russia || Short Film

Russia was the last trip Pete R. did in 2017.

 He spent three weeks traveling from city to city in the rainy and gloomy weather of Russia.

As you know, by the November, Russia is approaching winter and the weather can be quite unpredictable as it was for him.

 Instead of dwelling on bad weather, he decided to go out and capture the cities of Russia as it is while taking advantage of the approaching winter and went up to the Arctic Circle to witness the northern lights.

 It was probably one of the cheapest place in the world to do so.

 After Murmansk, Pete R. went down and spent a week each in St Petersburg and Moscow to capture the "Life Out of Balance" of Russian cities.

 Yes, you are not mistaken.

 This short film was fully inspired by the great documentary, Koyaanisqatsi, Life Out of Balance directed by Godfrey Reggio and the music composed by Philip Glass

Breathe || An 8K storm time-lapse film

Storm-chasing photographer Mike Olbinski is back with a new time-lapse film and this one is in black & white and was shot in 8K resolution.

 Breathe is made up solely of storm clips from 2017…either from the spring across the central plains or from the monsoon here in the southwest. Some are favorites, some are just ones I knew would be amazing in monochrome and others I used because they fit the music so well.

 This is spectacular combination of cinematography, music (Ex Makina) and simple editing.

PRESENTED BY NIKE SB || FIFTEEN YEARS OF SB DUNK || Stories from the Inside Out

In an era where sneakers change hands between collectors for five and even six-figure sums, it's sometimes hard to remember when kicks weren't a 'grail' item for people worldwide. 15 years ago, sneakerheads were a subculture centered in New York, LA, London, Japan and the Internet. Then, in 2002, the Nike SB Dunk was introduced by Nike's fledgling skateboarding division, and an 80s basketball shoe ignited both the world of skateboarding and sneaker culture.

 VICE Magazine had a front-row seat at the time as one of Nike SB's very first partners. So when the 15th anniversary rolled around they had an immediate thought – let's make a Dunk documentary that delves into the history of the SB Dunk, and charts how we got here.

 We found the story reflects the unique intersection of sneakerhead collectors with the skate community. Riders like Richard Mulder, Reese Forbes, Gino Iannucci, and Danny Supa helped determined the look, feel, approach and tone of the SB Dunk, in partnership with the Nike SB design team. That group quickly built a grassroots movement with skate retailers like Supreme and HUF, the nascent "hype" press of Freshnessmag.com and NikeTalk, and new Nike team riders like Brian Anderson, Wieger van Wagninen and Paul Rodriguez. Informed by the "gotta have them all" mentality of OG Japanese collector/retailers like Hidefumi Hommyo (of Chapter and Atmos), sneaker-specific boutiques like Undefeated popped up, region-specific releases were developed, and the sneaker culture your hypebeast cousin now talks about incessantly was fully established.

 Today the SB Dunk is iconic, but it's easy to forget that it's still a skate shoe first and foremost that guys like Theotis Beasley, Sean Malto and Ishod Wair still rock religiously.

 Watch the inside story of the past 15 years hearing from shop owners, collaborators and skateboarders who helped make the SB Dunk a legend.

FRACTAL || 4k StormLapse

"The more extreme the imbalance, the more extreme the storm."

 Though terrifying up close, thunderstorms are positively intriguing and beautiful when viewed from a safe distance, something Kansas-based photographer Chad Cowan knows all too well.

 Over the last six years, Cowan has been gathering timelapse footage of supercell thunderstorms all over the Great Plains, traveling over 1,600,000 Kilometres capturing tens of thousands of images to create FRACTAL, a 3 1/2-minute "StormLapse" that gives us a front row seat at "nature's attempt to correct an extreme imbalance."

 Is the weather a little too fair where you are? Seas too still, air too calm? Immerse yourself in magnificent atmospheric turbulence — billowing clouds, dancing bolts of lightning — with these expertly captured 4k time-lapse clips of stormy skies.

Pixar Did You Know? || Scrapped Film Ideas

Just before Christmas, Pixar shared video via YouTube revealing a bunch of scrapped film ideas from a load of its biggest movies.

 Some are pretty interesting, and some now seem completely ridiculous…

 Amongst the treasure trove of ideas which were eventually scrapped include a list of alternative titles for Toy Story that included 'Plastic Buddies', 'Don’t Move' and 'Toys in the Hood', characters who didn’t make the final cut in the likes of Ratatouille and Cars, and initial designs for beloved characters such as Mike Wazowski of Monsters Inc.

INFAMY || A Graffiti Film

INFAMY is an intense journey into the dangerous lives and obsessed minds of six of America's most prolific graffiti artists.

 Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Doug Pray ("Hype!" and "Scratch") who teamed up with writer, publisher, and graffiti guru Roger Gastman, the movie takes you deep into the world of street legends SABER, TOOMER, JASE, CLAW, EARSNOT, and ENEM.

 With brutal honesty, humor and charisma, these artists reveal why they are so willing to risk everything to spray paint their cities with "tags," "throwups," and full-color murals.

 You'll also meet Joe "THE GRAFFITI GUERRILLA" Connolly, a notorious "buffer" who paints out graffiti on his neighborhood's walls with a vengeance matched only by those who vandalized them.

 From the streets of the South Bronx to the solitude of a San Francisco tunnel, from high atop a Hollywood billboard to North Philadelphia for a lesson in "Philly-style tags," from the Mexican border to a Cleveland train yard, INFAMY doesn't analyze or glorify graffiti... it takes you there and brings it to life.
