Inside Nyjah Huston's Laguna Beach Mansion and Private Skatepark || Open Door || Architectural Digest

Architectural Digest recently went for a poke around the Laguna Beach home of pro skateboarder Nyjah Huston.

Set into the hills, his stripped-back home has great views throughout with its endless floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as space for a large games room, gym, bar, and trophy room. Huston also explains he’s in the process of getting a permit to put in an outside pool to make the most of the stunning views.

After giving the tour, Huston takes the AD team over to his private 10,000 square-foot skatepark, which was custom made to include obstacles similar to those found in the competitions he frequently wins. While he does train regularly at the facility, Nyjah adds that street skating with friends is still the best part of skateboarding for him.

FULL MOON || Night Skiing Without Artificial Light

Night skiing without artificial light: Closing lift stations and the setting sun mark the end of the action for most skiers. 

Not for Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle. 

While ski towns fall asleep they head into the mountains and see them awaking in a new light. 

The snow starts glistening again. 

It ́s just the sound of their skis turning in fresh snow that breaks the silence of the full moon night.

"Some of you might have been on a full moon ski tour before. It ́s a really special vibe which is hard to describe when you haven ́t experienced it by yourself. With this movie we wanted to capture that feeling of being out there skiing in a clear full moon night. There is not much that distracts you from the pure beauty of the mountains." - Jochen Mesle

Inside the World of Hip Hop's Top Photographer || HYPEBEAST Diaries || GUNNER STAHL

Atlanta-born Jonathan Simmons, widely known as Gunner Stahl, was working at a Dick’s Sporting Goods three years ago.

Now the 27-year-old photographer is a phenom in the industry, widely-recognized for his raw portraits of famous rappers including the late icons Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, and Juice Wrld.

Stahl recently compiled an intimate selection of captures for his new book titled Portraits: I have So Much to Tell You.

The book features archival images alongside recent, spur-of-the-moment snaps of Lil Yachty, The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Gunna and more.

To celebrate the publication, the artist teamed up with Red Bull Music Festival Atlanta to launch a solo exhibition on November 1 featuring large-scale displays of the portraits in his new book.

For their latest episode of HYPEBEAST Diaries, HYPEBEAST caught up with Stahl in his Atlanta studio to discover the man behind the viewfinder, his obsession with anime (preferably Gundam Wing), and his thoughts on whether or not print medium is dead.

Nike SB caught up with Thomas recently about meeting Stefan almost 20 years ago in the garage of a punk house in San Diego, the permanence of bronze and why failure is important to both art and skating.

Commissioned by The Getty Museum on the occasion of their 2019 Getty Medal to the painter, draftsman, photographer, and bookmaker, Ed Ruscha. 

Utilizing The Getty Research Institute's preservation and digitization of over a million images from Ed's Streets of Los Angeles photo series, and excerpts from Jack Kerouac's "On The Road," this film puts together two of Ed's major inspirations: Kerouac's text and the city of Los Angeles.

fthmlss || Aloe (Full Album)

fthmlss’ album “Aloe” need only be described with just one word: “luscious”. 

Every element of “Aloe” sounds as if it’s been handpicked for full-bodied, natural sound quality. 

Acoustic drum kits and organic textures embellish velvety keys, silky bass lines and cascading guitars and although it could be perhaps describable as “light-hearted”, there is richness and depth to “Aloe”, that is prevalent throughout the entirety release.

Choppy, organic and tactile, “Aloe” is just as heart-pounding and catchy as it is sensual and expressive. 

fthmlss chops samples effortlessly, giving the album that instrumental hip-hop finish, whilst it’s accompanying elements elicit qualities of jazz and funk. 

It’s befitting that “Aloe”’s track titles often reference delectable foodstuffs; from start to finish, “Aloe” is nothing short of a treat for the ears.

Home Wild Home || By Montanus

Francesco and Giorgio, aka Montanus, decided to dedicate a video-tribute to the land where
they were born and still live, celebrating the magnificent mountains where their desire to
explore the wilderness has grown.

‘Home Wild Home’ is the latest film by Montanus, but it doesn’t tell of an expedition in a remote land
like those they made in Patagonia and Iceland.

Montanus duo created a sort of tribute in honor of their own land, filming the backyard trails that link their hometown L’Aquila, in central Italy, with the massif of Gran Sasso d’Italia, where highest peaks of Apennine mountains are located.

In this mountain enviromental they started appreciating wilderness and developing the outdoor skills that has allowed them to travel and explore remote and wild lands.

‘Home Wild Home’ is more than a bikepacking film, it’s a sign of gratitude to their own land and an encouragement to the recovery of L’Aquila, hit by a devastating earthquake 10 years ago.

Art director Sam Morrison has created a unique and interesting take on the played out NYC timelapse by crowdsourcing all his material from Instagram.

Entitled “Typologies of New York City”, the 57-second hyperlapse makes use of 1,272 Instagram photos found using location tags and hashtags, all of which were then painstakingly stitched together to create this brilliant short film.

Nike has shared a one minute commercial staring basketball star Anthony Davis as part of its ongoing “Sport Changes Everything” series.

“Without basketball, my life would have been totally different,” he says. “People I hung around with, the stuff you’d see in my neighbourhood. It’s easy to fall victim. When you don’t have a safe haven to go to, it’ll definitely take you.”
