Vans Europe Presents: Where the Lands Meets the Sea || Skate || VANS.

A selection of the UK Vans skate team endeavored across the British Isle’s between free to move periods of ‘Covid lock downs’. Despite restrictions and the temperamental British weather, they managed to skate spots previously unseen and untouched.

Conditions were less than glamorous, the spots were extremely crusty, sleeping on uneven hillsides, setting up camp on rainy nights, trench foot, greasy English breakfasts and miles upon miles (2124 miles to be exact) in a smelly van is what was endured.

Despite all of the obstacles that inherently come with a trip like this, the crew managed to hit some of the most rural and out of reach locations along the charming coast of the UK. Allowing them to think outside of the box with some unconventional terrain, and reconnect with nature after a year and a half of lockdowns!

Accompanied by classic Polynesian drums, this minute and a half piece takes us through the Northern Coast’s spectacular valleys, above the clouds on the summit of Mauna Kea, and into the fires of Kilauea.

The uncertain future of skiing in Scotland has inspired Jamie Kunka to make sustainable skis out of wood. Based in his cabin in the Scottish Highlands, Jamie is the last ski maker in Scotland.

Jamie began teaching himself how to make his wooden skis after watching a Vimeo Staff Pick by Wyatt Visuals about a wooden-surfboard maker in Vancouver Island, Canada. Ten years on, The Last Ski Maker in Scotland is part homage to this original film and part a celebration of the power of film to inspire us all.

Jamie is still the only ski-maker in Scotland.

We all know that he’s a favorite among celebrities like Kanye West and A$AP Rocky, but in this short film we’ll be going all the way back to the very beginning.

We’ll see how he got his start in the industry without going to school for fashion, the most important shows early in his career (including Black Palms, Riot Riot Riot, and Virginia Creeper), his appointment at Jil Sander, the drama surrounding his departure, his work at Dior, the move to Calvin Klein, and then finally his arrival at Prada.

We’ll also be looking at how he impacted the sneaker game with his adidas partnership, featuring standouts like the Ozweegos and Stan Smiths.

Overall this journey is truly an inspiring one to look back at.
