Jeff Staple's $130,000 Nike Sneaker That Sparked a New York Riot
In this short film, designer Jeff Staple breaks down the anatomy of the legendary Nike Pigeon Dunk—one of the most infamous sneaker releases in history.
From the initial sketch to the fateful meeting at Nike HQ in Beaverton, Oregon, Jeff walks us through how a simple idea—paying tribute to the everyday pigeon, New York City’s unglamorous mascot—turned into a cultural explosion. We get into the nitty-gritty: the muted grey suede uppers inspired by the bird’s feathers, the pop of pink on the outsole mimicking pigeon feet, and how Nike’s Zoom Air tech was built into the sole to balance comfort with street utility.
Jeff also reveals details from the design process, showing up to sell a show he'd not even seen yet and the moment he realized the release had caused near-riots outside his NYC store, Reed Space. With archival photos, rare samples, and personal artifacts, this short film peels back the hype to reveal the true story behind a sneaker that made history.

Set in Tokyo’s Suginami-ku neighbourhood, home to many manga artists, Open Sky House is home to artists and architect Zajirogh, his wife, and their three children. Having always dreamed of living in a camper or a ship, Zajirogh designed a large central open-air courtyard and covered it with a retractable sail-like sheet. The family uses the courtyard as a living room which is furnished with camping furniture that can get wet or be moved quickly if needed. A series of colourful walls line the courtyard, with precious items that need to stay dry kept behind a set of glass and steel sliding doors with another set connecting to the fully equipped L-shaped kitchen. The second story features space for the family to sleep, work and play and includes a 1sqm (small closet-sized) study that Zajirogh refers to as “his little sanctuary”. A door leading onto the balcony wraps around the open roof, this provides access to open and close the roof as well as an area for Zajirogh to paint freely without concern about mess.

Mentalità on the Road || Lisbon Scenes
Mentalità landed in Lisbon at 7am to meet Furia Azul, the Ultras of Lisbon’s 3rd club, CF Belenenses to find out why this group has become a sort of reference point in the Portuguese Ultras scene over the last decade. It all started when Portugal instituted the SAD model, a corporate structure that requires clubs to transform their professional teams into privately managed companies, separating them from their original member-owned associations, in an attempt to attract investment and improve financial sustainability. Along with the support of the Furia Azul, the fans resisted, refounding the club from the lowest division in Portuguese football.
This movement is considered one of the most successful examples of fan resistance against corporate control in football, winning legal battles to reclaim the club's identity, forcing the SAD team to rename itself as BSAD and play in a different stadium. Meanwhile, the fan-backed Belenenses has been climbing back through the football divisions with strong community support.
The Furia Azul are a testament to what can be achieved when a group sticks to its principles. Over the years they have led the charge in resisting the FAN ID card, which ironically was imposed during the same years in which Portugal decriminalised drugs. Despite playing in the 3rd division today, they continue to lead the charge in fighting for supporters rights in Portugal.
