How Nature Documentaries Are Fake || Short Video

Simon Cade has shared a fascinating video over on his Vimeo page DSLRguide taking a look at how much of BBC’s Planet Earth, and nature documentaries in general, are real and how much of it is just clever storytelling.

 The show picks apart a number of scenes, looking at how narratives are created and conflicts are manipulated in order to humanise the animals to get an emotional response from the viewer. It’s a very interesting watch, and rather than fully criticising nature documentaries as the title of the video might suggest, Simon praises the balance of real and fake content shows like Planet Earth portray.
