South London || Hosted by Artwork
We've all done it - headed to a new city only to go to all the usual
tourist hotspots, leaving disappointed and uninspired by what we found.
Well, Airbnb want to put an end to that dull way of travelling. Its
latest campaign, "Live there", takes a fresh approach to tourism,
focussing on things that make a city tick - the nightlife, the music,
the food, and the people. Accessing these aspects of any city in the
globe is now easier than ever thanks to Airbnb's growing community of
over two million homes.
In this short film from Thump, highly influential dance music figure Artwork shows us around South London, from his old record shop on Surrey Street Market to Frank's Cafe on the roof of a Peckham carpark.
“I think the club culture in South London now is getting healthy,” says Artwork. “You’ve got Phonox in Brixton, they’re bringing in world class DJs now, then also you’ve got the Bussey Building over in Peckham. You’ve got all those different place. Rye Wax are putting on tiny 100 person things. There’s new stuff that can grow. It’s happening, it’s great […] There's so much on at the moment in South London, you're not going to be able to see it all, but, just get amongst it.”
