Kanye West || The Art Of Staging
At this point in his career, with a wealth of extravagant fashion shows
and concert tours behind him, it is easy to overlook the excess of a
Kanye West event as mere show-offishness. Though West may never be one
to shy away from show-offishness, he is certainly not the kind of artist
to make something big if it doesn’t serve a purpose. And it doesn’t get
much bigger than his stage sets, which happen to be the subject of an
immersive new documentary on his ability to integrate stagecraft into
his work.
Picking up from his first true tour “event,” the documentary explores
how Yeezy’s Glow in the Dark Tour became such a game changer for the
medium. But this doesn’t even come close to explaining the level of
detail and careful consideration that went into the now-infamous Yeezus
Tour, one inspired by the films of surrealist filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky.
Watch the full documentary below to get clued in to Kanye West’s inner brain activity.
