When Givenchy Needs To Sell A Handbag In China, They Call Mr. Bags || (HBO)

Chinese consumers buy a full third of all luxury goods sold across the globe.

 But they're getting sick of celebrity endorsements.

 That's where Mr. Bags comes in.

 Mr. Bags, whose real name is Tao Liang, started out as a college student studying finance. 

But his real passion was women's handbags, and so he started up a blog about it.

The content was simple: reviews of women's handbags, advice on new trends — stuff you'd normally see in a fashion magazine. 

 But Mr Bags struck a nerve among young Chinese who were getting bored with pushy editorials and cheesy advertising, and 4 years and 4 million followers later, he's gone from a tiny blog to being the singular most influential voice in the Chinese handbags industry.

 And he's not just writing about bags nowadays — he's making them. 

Prestigious design houses like Givenchy and Tod's have signed him up to design limited-run bags for them.

 Being cold, wearing thick rubber, putting on wet wetsuits in the morning… these are small sacrifices compared to the rewards.

 This movie is an ode to all the guys & girls braving harsh weather to live their passion.

Na-Kel Smith || Life of a Supreme Skateboarder, Musician, and Actor || HYPEBEAST DIARIES

Na-Kel Smith may be one of the most-talked about street skaters in the sport, and it has just as much to do with his skills on the board as it does with his skills off the board.

 It’s not because he lacks any particular ability, although he’ll humbly admit becoming Pro is still a surprise to him; it’s because he possesses so much talent in so many other mediums of creative expression.

 On top of riding for powerhouse brands like adidas, Supreme, Fucking Awesome and Spitfire, the 24-year-old also owns his own brand, Hardies Hardware, alongside fellow skater Tyshawn Jones, in addition to rapping and painting. 

 His most ambitious pivot will come next month when he makes his acting debut in Jonah Hill’s coming-of-age film, Mid90s.

 “The fact that I do so much other shit, I feel like I got to prove it,” Na-Kel tells HYPEBEAST while rummaging through his California apartment, “not to anyone else but to myself.”

  A few weeks ago, back in August, HYPEBEAST followed the young virtuoso around for a weekend, from skating the local LA streets with his teammates, to playing a concert in San Diego. 

 “[I'm] trying to see if anything in the world is really as possible as they say, and to be honest, if you have a good work ethic and your open-minded, it seems pretty true so far.”

 Neal visited for work and wasn't there as a tourist.

 This was his first time in China, so he got in some sightseeing where he could.

Nias || Laurie Towner

The swell was almost too big for the reef, turning a perfect right into a thick double-up monster.

 The few surfers game enough to put themselves under the lip were rewarded with some amazing tubes. 

 Laurie Towner was one of these guys and got some great waves until he was flogged at the bottom of a huge double-up. 

 The result was a few separated ribs but Laurie was still stoked!

Weekend || Karl Berglind

We love Malmö. 

 In fact anyone involved in skateboarding loves Malmö.

 None more so than local ripper Karl Berglind.

 Despite spending most of his time abroad since dropping out of school to pursue skateboarding two years ago, Karl still finds time to return to his hometown.

 Whether it’s partnering with Vans to action community work at Kroksbäck, encouraging local kids to pick up skateboarding, or hanging out with his lifelong friends at Stapelbäddsparken - the park that shaped his style, Karl’s roots remain firmly in the Malmö skate scene.

 In a rare break from his travels this summer, Wasted Talent spent a weekend with Karl, to gain an insight into the young Swede’s love for his hometown and the terrain that continues to define his skating.

Mark Gonzales has teamed up with adidas Skateboarding to recreate a piece he performed two decades ago in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

 Hosted at Milk Studios in New York City, the new performance sees Gonzales bringing back the same tricks from the 1998 piece, which were fluid and uninhibited to celebrate creativity and freedom of expression.

 The video features clips from the new performance, as well as flashbacks to Germany.
