Stepping Beyond || Mark Healey

This video was produced in partnership with lululemon men

 Big-wave surfer and overall waterman Mark Healey is well accustomed to facing critical situations where life and death may hang in the balance. In 2006, his tow board caught an edge while whipping across the face of a wind-blown west bowl at massive Teahupo'o, handing him the wipeout of a lifetime as the whole Pacific ocean enveloped him. Afterwards, Healey was quoted as saying, "he was thankful to just be alive." Since then he's broken ribs, fractured a kneecap at Pipeline and ruptured an eardrum at both Pe'ahi and Dungeons in South Africa.

 While most people would try to find a different hobby after sustaining the type of injuries outlined above, Healey considers each setback as a training exercise. "As I've gotten older my appreciation for uncomfortable situations and the ocean has definitely grown," says Healey in the edit below. "I don't think there's actually growth without some discomfort. If you try to avoid it, you don't really grow as a human. I would have to say my practice is a practice of confronting discomfort. It's just as much in the training as it is in the act of doing these things out in the ocean."

 Healey relies on his practice of hypoxic breath training to get him through any trials he may face in the water. "With breath-holding, there's not a human on planet earth, including world record holders that aren't going to have to battle within 5 minutes," says Healey. "Most people are going to have to have that battle within 30-seconds. It's one of those alarms that's meant to keep you alive, but in certain situations, it's a real hindrance. This incredible anxiety just grips you. You have to dig into that feeling and regain control of your mind; instead of your body telling your mind what to do, you have to keep your mind telling your body what to do."

Press play on the edit below to see how Healey deals with discomfort, both above and below the water's surface in this latest short "Stepping Beyond."

Verso || Documentary Short Film

"I can't do portraits of people that I'm not connected to. I think there's something about doing people that I know intimately, that puts something in the portrait that I can't put into words ... or I don't want to put into words, because I want to keep it private. But making the portrait, says everything that I can't say with words."

The Sun, The Moon, and the Truth || Nepal

We are very ungrateful to existence
it has given so much to us, and without our asking
to look around at what existence is continually doing for us:
The Sun
The Moon
The stars
The trees
The birds
The animals
The people

 We are such ungrateful creatures
you are living in a tremendously beautiful dream
you have to be awake about it. Then only; a gratefulness arises
I call that gratefulness true religion.

 All that you need is a deep gratitude towards existence,
he need not believe in god, he need not believe in heaven and hell
just a simple phenomenon, a deep felt gratitude
that this existence would have been missing something without you,
that this vast existence needed you, no one else.

 And your place, was empty before you, will be empty after you.

6815 Stone Island || SS '018_Collection Video

Having revealed the full Spring/Summer 2018 collection back in December, Stone Island has now released a video lookbook to go with it.

 Unsurprisingly for a label famed for its innovative approach to fabrics, the collection includes a range of cutting-edge materials and techniques such as the alligator camo and a new reflective fabric.

 The video also showcases pieces from Stone Island’s cult Marina line, which is set to be a key component of the collection.

 The Marina pieces are divided into two parts, “Folded” — which features a dying, folding and printing process that makes each piece unique — and “Marina.”

 Other pieces in the video lookbook include the Italian brand’s Ghost range, which sees a range of pieces in a monochrome color palette.

Take a look at the video lookbook below, and expect the full collection dropping soon.

Dark Days || Short Film

Times are hard for dreamers, and “Dark Days” is the allegory of it.

 Director Sebastien Zanella, who’s work erases the fine line between dreams and reality, has spent the past winter following young "Ion products" prodigy and basque country surfer Andy Criere, to capture his dedication to surfing and the poetry he embodies in abandoning his humanity in the hands of the ocean.

 As an experimental short film, the voice over, an extract from TV show Mr Robot, read by Rami Malek, confronts the eerie visuals to the violence of the speech offers and furthermore, the violence of our world.

 The intention of director Sebastien Zanella is to present a poetic & questionable short film, that puts into perspective our own belief about religion and the afterlife.

Three Minutes || Short Film

To celebrate chinese New Year 2018 and showcase its iPhone X all at once, Apple has released a new short film called Three Minutes

 Shot entirely with the flagship smartphone and directed by Peter Chan, the 7-minute video (yep, it is 7 minutes despite the name) follows a train attendant on a six-day train journey from Nanning to Harbin.

 While the train briefly stops at Kaili station (for, you guessed it, 3 minutes), she's able to spend a brief but precious moment with her son.

 The overriding message of the ad, other than to buy Apple's products, is that every moment spent with family should be treasured, no matter how short.

Sometimes, there's a man.

  Well, he's the man for his time and place and he fits right in with the world around him.

 That's Cooper Darquea.

 Now I won't say hero, 'cause what's a hero? Some might call him a legend though.

 With humble Rhode Island origins some might say he was born to ride the mountains of California and that his journey west was foretold by prophecy.

 Well, we lost our train of thought here... but hell, we've done introduced it enough.

 We hope you enjoy this "Faces" video about Cooper Darquea

The Show (1995) || Hip-Hop Documentary

The Show is a 1995 American documentary film about hip hop music.

 Brian Robbins constructed a well made documentary of some of the best MCs during the mid 90's.

 We get to see some footage of the late, Notorious B.I.G. as well as some live slammin' performances.

 Though they're cut brief, you can still feel its impact.

 Wu-Tang, Snoop, Russell Simmons, and Run DMC are well presented aswell as some of hip hop's biggest names.

 While "Rhyme and Reason", another rap-documentary that came out a year later goes more in depth of hip-hop culture, The Show turns out more entertaining.

Hit play and enjoy.
