One Night In New York || Aaron Herrington & Brian Delatorre

New York is a cold-hearted bitch. She’s the prettiest girl you’ve ever laid eyes on that you know could break your heart at any moment. There’s a price to pay and it’s not just on the price tag. You wake up at war with the world and then the buzz of the battlefield rings around the clock. To skate through New York is one of the most exhilarating but exhausting experiences. Before you know it you’re too tired from skating to the spot to actually skate the spot. People are in your way everywhere and they all need something from you. The biggest police force in the country is out for you too. You gotta hustle just to exist in New York and excelling relies on the stars aligning. The most dramatic weather has trampled the urban jungle and it’s riddled with cracks, potholes, glass, rubbish and weather-beaten asphalt. The character of the city is undeniable but you gotta have just as much heart as The Big Apple itself to keep your head up.

"There are so many cities out there with similar energy, but skating in NYC is amazing because of the people, the food, the energy, and the spots of course. It’s not always the easiest place to go skate and be productive, but just being on your skateboard, you get to see the city in a way normal people would not."

Black Wave || Albee Layer

Take Shelter Productions after a lot of work blessed us with a new sick piece for our enjoyment.

Last year was a bit of an after thought. Seemed like everyone still had an El Nino hangover and we were neck deep on trying to finalize a documentary. We took breaks from cutting our new film Nervous Laughter by filming, but there were no trips, no hyped swells and no real concise thoughts on producing any new edits. Luckily for us this past year still provided unique days and we were able to cut a new piece entitled Black Wave

Check it out below and please, try to stay calm!

Andy Criere || Art is Timeless

Art is blue. That passion flowing among the waves. Equilibrium. Harmony. A break from the routine. You, on your own. Nature’s fury maintains its infinite beauty. A feeling that is manifested in aesthetic and attractive forms. A continuous pursuit for beauty. Contemplation, the pleasure of a spirit that penetrates in Nature. A way to transmit emotion; a language. A way of life. Everything goes, changes and remains. Art is timeless.

Nothing Special || Full Graffiti Movie

Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of Eastern Canada’s Maritime provinces on the Atlantic. The Bay of Fundy, with its famously extreme tides, is a whale-watching destination. These are a few quick facts about Halifax. None of which instantly draw you to conclude that it’s a “cool” or “lit” place to come up as an artist. Graffiti artist APER—himself a Halifax native—describes it as a place for those who want to “get drunk and eat lobster reside.” But he’s since moved out and spread his name and tag across the globe.

 Over the past few years, APER has gained the respect of the graffiti community by traveling and constantly pushing limits—he’s now one of Canada’s most prominent graffiti figures. Some artists stray away from confrontation, hefty fines, and possible jail time (depending where on the globe you’re residing.) APER and the TRG (Tunnel Runner Gang) crew are the total opposite. It’s this need for an above normal adrenaline rush that has APER dedicating his life—sometimes even health—to tagging more and more obscure/prohibited locations.

A number of crazy encounters while in Eastern Europe led him to start capturing his experiences on a Go Pro and chest camera. All his footage spans North and South America, being captured and tortured, chases on foot, the United Kingdom, and some of the most notorious locations in Eastern Europe.

 He decided to sum it all up into an hour-long film that he’s had professionally edited and narrated called “Nothing Special.”

Deathwish Skateboards || The Deathwish Video

In this explosive story of revenge and urban violence, Jim Greco and Erik Ellington team up with a group of skateboarders who have a change of opinion after their favorite spots are mercilessly knobbed and destroyed by a gang of thugs posing as authority figures. Slash is arrested, Lizard King is assaulted by a skatepark ledge, and Furby’s board is stolen. They then turn vigilante as they stalk the mean streets of Los Angeles with Moose and Neen Williams, on the prowl for handrails, gaps and dangerous spots of that nature. The Deathwish Video is an epic and controversial film that is frank and original in its treatment of urban skateboarding and the average citizen’s helplessness in dealing with it. Various artists wrote the musical score. And watch for a young Jon Dickson in his film debut as one of the pros.

IKEA || The Blue Bag

In honour of what is quite possibly one of the most hardworking bags in the world, IKEA has teamed up with creative agency Acne to create a short film with the blue FRAKTA taking centre stage.

 "It’s been talked about, made into dog-ponchos, used as a fashion accessory and for exercising–and we think that’s great," says Acne. "But the truth is, this plain piece of plastic has an even bigger meaning than that, it summarizes everything we believe in: That design, function, and quality shouldn’t be just for a few."

 The bag even has over 500 reviews on Amazon (and a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars) and, apparently, can carry up to 2500 meatballs. Did you know FRAKTA actually means "carry" in Swedish? Well, it certainly lives up to its name.
