The lights haven’t gone out yet! Sweetgrass Productions is back with DARKLIGHT, a film that takes viewers back into a world of light and color. 

Supported by innovative television manufacturer Philips TV, this is the third collaboration between the soulful filmmakers at Sweetgrass Productions and Swedish creative house Ahlstrand and Wållgren.

 Follow professional mountain bikers Graham Agassiz, Matt Hunter, and Matty Miles on a mind-bending night ride through the moonscapes of Southern Utah to the Ewok forests of the Pacific Northwest.

A physically and mentally demanding production, this piece was shot during the midnight hours over three intense weeks. 

With a scrappy and determined crew of 27, thousands of pounds of camera and lighting gear was slogged, rigged, soldered, hung and broken down each night. 

Unlike anything ever seen before in the world of mountain biking, DARKLIGHT features arrestingly beautiful landscapes and world class riding.

An evolution of its predecessors, DARKLIGHT continues to push the creative bounds of action sports cinema.

How Nike Became The Most Powerful Brand In Sports || Short Documentary

Nike is one of the most recognized brands in the world. It continues to surpass rivals like adidas and Under Armor, despite controversy and slowing sales growth in U.S. How did Nike become the giant it is today?

Nike's iconic swoosh logo and "Just Do It" slogan are universally known. As of June 2019, Nike is valued at nearly $130 billion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world. It's popular shoe lines include the Nike Air Max, Nike Air Force 1, Nike VaporMax, Nike Cortez, and of course, Air Jordans.

Air Jordans, combined with an advertising strategy that embraces controversy and exclusive contracts with some of the biggest sports leagues in the country have helped Nike succeed. But sales growth in North America is slowing down and and sneaker sales aren't growing as fast as they used to.

Nike also faces criticism for its treatment of female employees, which is something the company will need to work on as it tries to make Women's apparel and sneakers a bigger part of its strategy.

Will Nike continue to grow or will adidas, Under Armour, and other brands continue to eat into its market share?

They ended up in the bed of a plantation-green pickup truck, with a mad tour guide behind the wheel, and thrashing palmeras blowing above them. They rode stubby fishes and sleek shortboards through lurching, spitting sapphire surf. Each guy had a story, from the gonzo writer to the gypsy traveler. It was there on The Island where these eclectic friends converged one extraordinary winter to explore these foreign waters and revel in this dreamy island life… All aboard the Palmera Express."

Fatigue || Max Fierek's Fight to Ride

Max Fierek tested positive for Lyme disease when he was nine years old, since then he has fought fatigue, lung capacity, muscle fatigue, short term memory loss and mood swings. 

For Max, living with Lyme disease for half his life has taught him empathy for others and to cherish his time outside in nature which helps him stay positive and fight for his love of mountain biking.

Signature || Short Film

Nothing is intact or permanent, everything is affected and connected—the history, the city and the rider. Just as the city left a mark on the rider, he leaves a mark on the city even if just for a split second.

The wet trail of wheels on pavement after skidding through a puddle on a rainy day, the sound of the skateboard against granite echoing through the alleys and streets and his shadow spreading from one building to another until he reaches the river. The reflection in the river follows him along its banks and over the bridge where the scattered leaves on the sidewalk swirl and dance for a moment after he rides through them and then staying, peaceful, like nothing ever happened but at the same time everything has changed. Even if you think you didn’t notice him, you can almost taste the lingering freedom in the air.

Like a signature, a rider leaves his mark—on the streets and in people’s memories. A signature of freedom.

Herbie and Nathan Fletcher || Peninsula South

Nixon brings together larger-than-life surf legends Herbie and Nathan Fletcher for a road trip down memory lane in a new short film entitled Peninsula South, where the father and son team head down to Baja and revisit some old haunts from previous adventures. 

Director Riley Blakeway captures Herbie’s pioneering spirit and the close-knit relationship he has built with his son Nathan as they set out on an expedition they’ve not made together in over twenty years, reignites both their love for Baja and their deep appreciation for one another. 

By the late 60s, Herbie had already begun exploring Baja in search of un-crowded lineups and adventure. 

As his life moved forward, he built a family who share his love of travel, and who have joined him countless times to explore the fickle southern peninsula. 

On this latest mission, Nathan discusses his father’s contagious, childlike enthusiasm for surfing and life, and shares how he hopes to pass those ideals down to the next Fletcher generation.

MF DOOM || The Man Behind The Mask Documentary

Legendary rapper and producer MF DOOM is covered in this documentary. Your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. DOOM is a British-American rapper. He performed and released music under several stage names, most notably MF Doom (stylized in all caps). DOOM debuted during hip hop's golden age of the late 1980s and became a major figure in underground hip hop of the early 21st century. Upon his death, Variety called him "one of the most celebrated, unpredictable and enigmatic figures in independent hip-hop". People have called him The Phantom of the Opera of Hip Hop.

Born in London, Dumile moved with his family to Long Island, New York, at a young age. He began his musical career in 1988 as a member of the trio KMD, performing under the name Zev Love X with his younger brother DJ Subroc and another MC called Rodan. After hearing about the group from 3rd Bass, A&R Dante Ross signed KMD to Elektra Records and their recording debut arrived on 3rd Bass’s song “The Gas Face” from The Cactus Album. Their debut album Mr. Hood was released in 1991 and attained modest success with the singles “Peachfuzz” and “Who Me?” KMD disbanded in 1993.

After taking a hiatus from music, Dumile reemerged in 1998, when he began performing at open mic events while wearing a mask. He adopted the MF Doom persona and rarely made unmasked public appearances thereafter. His metal mask resembles that of Marvel Comics super-villain Doctor Doom, who is depicted rapping on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album Operation: Doomsday. DOOM’s most prolific period was in the early 2000s, when he released four studio albums and two collaborative albums between 2003 and 2005, using the MF Doom moniker as well as the pseudonyms King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn. In the 2010s, he relocated to London, where he recorded more music.

MF DOOM frequently collaborated with other producers and rappers, most notably Madlib, under the moniker Madvillain. The duo's 2004 album Madvillainy received widespread critical acclaim upon its release and has been cited as DOOM’s magnum opus and a landmark album in hip hop. DOOM’s other notable collaborations include Danger Doom (with Danger Mouse), Doomstarks (with Ghostface Killah), JJ Doom (with Jneiro Jarel), NehruvianDoom (with Bishop Nehru), and Czarface Meets Metal Face (with Czarface).

In 2003, MF DOOM released the King Geedorah album Take Me to Your Leader. Geedorah is credited as producer, but only appears as an MC on four tracks. The majority of vocal tracks feature guest MCs, and the album features several instrumental montages of sampled vocals from old movies and TV shows—a technique employed on most of Doom’s albums. Later in 2003, DOOM released the LP Vaudeville Villain under the moniker Viktor Vaughn (another play on Doctor Doom, whose "real name" is Victor von Doom). In 2004 he released a follow-up LP under the Viktor Vaughn moniker, Venomous Villain. Later in 2004, the second MF Doom album Mm..Food was released by Minnesota-based label Rhymesayers Entertainment. DOOM’s first commercial breakthrough came in 2004, with the album Madvillainy, created with producer Madlib under the group name Madvillain. Released by Stones Throw Records, the album was a critical and commercial success. It has since become known as a MF DOOM masterpiece.

This short film was shot over a 5 day trip to Tokyo in January 2016.

It was Christoph Gelep first time visiting Japan, a place he had always wanted to see. 

With a population of 35 million, Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world. 

Due to this, he soon realised how lively and energetic this city really is.

Christoph Gelep decided to take his camera and explore this fascinating city so rich in culture, tradition and innovation.
