FUZI UV TPK || Short Film

Melbourne based photographers Ryan Cookson and Michael Danischewski have teamed up to produce a video portrait – FUZI UV TPK

Throughout the 1990’s, French artist FUZI grew up in the suburbs of Paris on a diet of graffiti and gang culture as part of the prolific crew UV TPK. In the mid 90’s, he pioneered a childlike yet brutal style of graffiti known as ‘Ignorant Style’

In the last few years, he has transitioned from graffiti to tattooing and developed an international following.

With clients such as Os Gemeos, Diplo, Justice and Scarlett Johansson, he continues to travel around the globe, making his mark and exhibiting his work.

Documented on a trip to Australia, FUZI gives an insight into his current working practice and an uncompromising look at his time in France during the mid 90's.

Dear Monday || Short Film

Dear Monday.

Two words that best describe an idea that Raphael Desharnais had been wanting to use as a premise for a short film for about a year.

When his friend Antoine hired him to shoot commercial work in Utah back in April of this year, he figured this was a golden opportunity to do it.

The location and timing were perfect to stay a few extra days and work on a fun personal project for which they had total creative freedom.

They traveled through the desert in an RV for 7 days, hiked, ran, rode, jumped, screamed and laughed from dawn to dusk; classic indie filmmaking.

Everywhere Unseen || New Zealand

This is the first in an ongoing series where Monster Children take four photographers, send them out into the world, and see what they bring back.

The idea is, while they're all travelling to the same destinations, each photographer will have a different take on his surroundings, providing us with four completely different points of view.

For this first outing, they went to the South Island of New Zealand and met with Kiwi photographers Jake Mein, Nick Rapley, Jereme Aubertin, and Beth Eastell.

Everyone loaded into the truck, cameras in hand, and for four days they travelled through the most remote areas of Te Waipounamu, stopping at Wanaka, The Catlins, Dunedin, and then back through Saint Bathans.

So here it is, Everywhere Unseen in New Zealand.

TEMPLE || A monochrome skateboarding quest

TEMPLE is a conceptual monochrome short film, following skateboarder Sammy Montano on a journey through the Balkans and its fallen monuments.

It was essential to transcribe them with respect according to David & Douglas vision, to spiritualize the expression of their magnificent forms, timeless aesthetics and monumental dimensions.

Confronting them with skateboarding allowed David & Douglas to animate this notion of freedom and exploration.

Sammy Montano places himself as a central witness, being both the representation of this quest but also its outcome.

It represents the doubt that animates each of us in the face of the unknown and this constantly renewed desire to take step in search of the answers to our deepest beliefs.

This film is a personal art project, a pure reverence and tribute to these monuments, better known as « Spomeniks » and their legacy.

Personal touches include accents of black and yellow in honour of the Pittsburgh Steelers, an art collection, and a range of old-school cars.

A Coastal Reverie || Short Film

Montaña de Oro State Park encompasses roughly 8,000 acres of fog shrouded coastal hills and coastal bluffs that abut the rocky shorelines of south Estero Bay on Central California’s coast. It’s undeveloped coastline and undulating, rhythmic singletrack offer a quick and easy dream-like getaway for various local and visiting trail user groups. It’s evident enough that the trails here didn’t build themselves, nor did the access to them come easily granted – especially for mountain bikers. The Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers have been instrumental on both fronts.

The Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers (CCCMB) is a group of volunteer trail enthusiasts from the Central Coast of California that formally organized in 1989 to help build and maintain multi-use trails in the region, as well as to protect and advocate for mountain bike trail access. Since their inception CCCMB has helped build over 40 miles of new trails and serves as the primary maintenance organization for an extended network of over 100 miles of trails. Together with California State Parks, CCCMB is designing and building a new two-mile trail at Montaña de Oro to enhance connectivity between existing trails, and to improve the user experience for mountain bikers and other trail users.

Culture Shifters || Jake Burghart (Director of Photography @ VICE)

"Jake Burghart started with VICE 13 years ago. He was 23. 'When I first started I was like, yeah these guys are cool,' he tells Stab. 'I didn't have a job and was just happy to have one. Since then, it's all been one big wild ride.' Jake's travelled to 69 different countries and is the gentleman behind the camera for VICE's most notable pieces. He also happens to be handy on a surfboard, which made him the ideal candidate for our Culture Shifters series with House Beer. Jake gave us a rare glimpse into life behind the scenes of North Korea, The Democratic Republic of Congo, The White House with Obama, who after the interview, asked them, 'If they want to go get some craft beers, because that's what bearded hipsters do, right?' Inside the Van Life of Pro Snowboarder John Jackson. || Vertical Video

Red Bull has released a short new (vertical) video giving us a little look around pro snowboarder John Jackson’s custom home-on-wheels.

The van has been kitted out with everything Jackson needs to enjoy life to the fullest – including roof storage for fire wood, an oven, a bed, a place to keep all his fishing rods and snowboards, and an awning outside to make the most of the beautiful views.

The best part – he can travel the world constantly in search of the best powder.

“The Raff Raff lets me travel around and live how I wanna live and get to my favourite spots and go snowboarding,” he says. “What more can you ask for? Going out and being in the wilderness and doing what you love, and then coming back to your home in the parking lot. There’s nothing better than that.”

ENTRE CIEL ET TERRE || La Palma in 4K astrolapse

Filmmaker Adrien Mauduit  describes La Palma in the Canary islands as one of “few regions in the world where the skies meet the Earth with almost no distinction between the two.”

For this reason, the title of his most recent time-lapse film of La Palma is ‘ENTRE CIEL ET TERRE’ which translates literally to mean ‘Between the sky and Earth.’

Recorded with the “Canon 6D Baader modified, the Sony a7s, the Sony a7rII and a variety of bright lenses ranging from 14mm to 300mm,” this short film by Mauduit captures the beauty of the dark night sky from the mountain tops of La Palma.

Mauduit claims his intent was “to give the audience sort of a confusion as to where they are because that’s precisely the feeling you get when you look up at the stars from the mountains.”

The awe-inspiring range of colors Mauduit captures were made possible with his intentional use of an astro-modified camera which “enable [him] to almost get the full range of colors a DSLR can pick up on single frames from nebulae.”

Maudit describes his inclusion of the Tajinaste flower around the 1:40 mark, as inspired by its “majestic and prehistoric” character. As he relayed, “It really adds something special to the special atmosphere I wanted to convey, especially when the milky way galaxy and the sea of clouds move in the background!”
