Yohji Yamamoto || Master of the Shadows

Phil Sansom has partnered with Broadwick Live to present a new short film dedicated to Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. Master of the Shadows was in turn captured in route to Y-3’s FW16 collection launch in Paris earlier this year.

The interview finds Yamamoto discussing his unmatched passion for design, albeit challenging at times to remain focused.

“Around 15 years ago, I felt that I had come too far from the street,” he revealed. “I was almost losing my enthusiasm for making clothing.”

Shortly thereafter, Yohji embarked on a partnership with adidas, thus creating Y-3. Yamamoto insisted that it was “time to care for the body,” which led to the futuristic sportswear label being born.
